EURORAP AWARDED FOR GLOBAL SAFETY BY PRINCE MICHAEL

The hard work and commitment of staff at the European Road Assessment Programme (EuroRAP) in establishing its activities in countries across Europe and beyond has been officially recognised.

EuroRAP was presented with a Special International Award by Prince Michael of Kent in recognition of the important role in bringing the programme’s activities and methodology to countries throughout Europe. The award was also presented in recognition of the organisation’s pivotal role in establishing the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP). Methodology and standards developed by EuroRAP are now being rolled out through out the world in road assessment programmes.

EuroRAP was one of a number of organisations which received awards for outstanding effort in promoting road safety on the global agenda. The award was presented on the eve of the recent and first Global Transport Ministers Conference in Moscow.

John Dawson, chairman of EuroRAP, said that the award was welcome recognition of the dedication of those working for and with EuroRAP to improving road safety. “Our team is rightly proud of its key role in establishing iRAP and will continue to help and guide wherever possible,” he said.

EuroRAP’s award presentation was part of the Make Roads Safe – a Call for a Decade of Action for Road Safety Campaign event. The campaign has called on governments attending the first UN global Ministerial Conference to agree action to reduce by 50 per cent the projected increase in road deaths to 2020.
