Building Back Safer - Making Roads Fit for 2030 - British EuroRAP Crash Risk Mapping Results 2021 (Covering 2014-2016 and 2017-2019)
In Great Britain, casualty reduction progress has stagnated since 2011, though in 2020 we have hit a record low number of fatalities attributable to the reduced traffic levels we saw through the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic. As restrictions are eased, we expect traffic volumes to increase and, without a step change in road safety performance and investment, we can anticipate a return to pre-pandemic casualty numbers.
This report identifies a high-return investment package of £733 million for local ‘A’ roads in England (including the Major
Roads Network), with similar portfolios available in Scotland, Wales and on the Strategic Road Network in England.
