According to the philosophical basis for Vision Zero and the Safe System, the former of which has been the basis for Sweden’s success, road death and serious injury should not be seen as an acceptable by-product of mobility. We simply cannot accept the level of death and serious injury we have on our roads, particularly when we know what many of the solutions are and that they offer good value for money. And that’s without yet having considered how much road trauma reduction could relieve pressure on the NHS and social care.
