Strategic and Major Roads

RSF works with strategic road operators and major road network owners to help ensure performance of these important roads is monitored and tracked, through modelling mass action interventions across whole networks, through assessing the safety of new roads, through developing new schemes for existing roads through the route review process and by providing tools to improve the results where new developements are introduced on the network. RSF provides advice and assistance with embedding iRAP and Safe System into policy and approach and works to establish Safe System Fatal Review Panels.

“At National Highways road safety is, and will always be, our number one priority. England’s motorways and major A-roads are some of the safest in the world, but our ambition remains that no-one should be harmed while travelling or working on our roads. The Road Safety Foundation remains a key partner in helping us achieve that. Through iRAP, we not only track our safety performance; we also have access to a rich data source that directly informs our strategic planning, evaluation and prioritisation of safety programmes. Their expertise and ongoing support help us advance a proactive, evidence-led approach that ensures we focus our efforts where we can deliver the greatest impact for drivers.”

“Road Safety Foundation has been an invaluable partner in our journey toward adopting the Safe System Approach. Their team brings a rare combination of deep technical expertise, practical insight, and a genuine commitment to improving road safety outcomes. Alongside technical support on projects using iRAP, RSF’s data analysis and tailored research have provided us with clear, actionable intelligence to shape our next steps. Their work consistently adds clarity, confidence, and strategic direction. We consider them a trusted and highly effective partner in delivering a safer Strategic Road Network in Wales.”

“The Road Safety Foundation have been instrumental in Jersey’s transition to the Safe System Approach to road safety. From the outset, their guidance and technical expertise have exceeded our expectations, supporting us in creating a comprehensive risk map of Jersey’s roads utilising iRAP and demonstrating how to maximise its impact on casualty reduction. Their enthusiasm, hard work, and unparalleled knowledge have been crucial in helping us establish our casualty reduction priorities and a clear methodology to address them. Thanks to their invaluable support, we are confident that we have the best approach for identifying priorities and implementing effective road safety solutions on Jersey’s roads.”
