Saving Lives on Local Roads – Safer Roads Fund Update

This report showcases the impact of England’s Safer Roads Fund, highlighting how a proactive, Safe System aligned approach to road safety is helping to prevent deaths and serious injuries on some of the country’s highest-risk local A roads. Drawing on iRAP risk assessments, route reviews and real-world case studies, the report explains how local authorities have used data-led investment, infrastructure improvements and speed management measures to develop high-value safety schemes. It presents the programme’s overall results, including an estimated 2,700 deaths and serious injuries prevented over 20 years and a benefit-cost ratio of 5.3, alongside examples of successful schemes from across England and insights into the tools, methodologies and partnerships that have made the programme a success.
