Introduction to iRAP

This course is aimed at road safety practitioners and engineers who are new to iRAP and Star Rating. It covers information about iRAP, uses the demonstrator to show how the model works, and introduces the route review process and tool.
Introduction to Route Review
- 3 hours • Online
This session provides a demonstration of the revised and updated Route Review tool. It introduces the functionality of the tool and how it works to help practitioners move towards Safe System implementation.
Mastering the Route Review Tool
- 1 day • In-person
This one-day course offers delegates a practical and focused introduction to the Route Review Tool, highlighting its most relevant features and demonstrating how to use it effectively. Designed for participants who already have a foundational understanding of the iRAP methodology, the course concentrates specifically on applying the Route Review Tool to develop User Defined Investment Plans for iRAP-coded routes.
The training day combines expert-led presentations with hands-on practical exercises to ensure participants gain both theoretical and applied knowledge.
At the end of the course, delegates will be required to complete a Competency Test. Those who pass will receive formal certification.
The course can be delivered at the RSF offices or arranged at locations across the UK.
Introduction to the Safe System (partnership with Agilysis)

Together, with Agilysis, this in-person course provides an excellent foundation for starting to apply the Safe System in practice. The course covers Safe System fundamentals and develops a good understanding of how the Safe System can be delivered through each of the main elements.
Safe System: Safe Roads and Safe Speeds

This course is aimed at road safety practitioners and engineers who want to dive into Safe System delivery, focusing on Safe Roads and Safe Speeds. The course covers an introduction to the Safe System, survivability research, setting speed limits according to road function, and iRAP.
Using Crash Risk Mapping to Prioritise Cost-Effective Road Safety Schemes

Each year, we publish Crash Risk Mapping results for motorways and A roads at https://rsfmaps.agilysis.co.uk/. In this interactive session, we explain what the data presented here show, and how the data can be used by a road authority to help determine where to focus limited resources to maximise casualty savings on its roads.
iRAP and Development Planning
- 4 hours • Online
This course is aimed at developers and local authority development control, transport planning and highways development control officers. The course explores how the iRAP methodology can help quantify the safety impact of new developments and appropriate mitigation approaches. The course covers an introduction to using the demonstrator for smaller developments and the concept of using the Route Review Tool to model larger scale developments.
Introduction to Star Rating for Designs

This is an online course and will provide attendees with an overview of what Star Ratings for Designs is and how it can be used for major road transformations or new road roads like bypasses.
Becoming an Expert User
- 2½ hours • Online
This course is aimed at experienced users of iRAP who wish to gain more information about the underpinning calculations and basis of the model.
